Ⅱ. The Origin of LIFE
The Definition of LIFE
Before we can discuss the origin of LIFE, we must explore what LIFE is. Otherwise, we would have no basis.
Although the number of scientists who are currently discussing LIFE may not be as many as great as the hairs on an ox, at least the number is very large. When we run a web search and enter the words “LIFE”,” LIFE study”, “Origin of LIFE”, “LIFE Exploration” and so on, we enter into a wide field of life exploration where we see various research theories and achievements discussed by LIFE scientists.
Unfortunately, most LIFE scientists fuss over the manifestations of LIFE, but without understanding its essence. Only Christopher Langton, a doctor at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the United States, in his “Artificial LIFE", initiated some slight wisdom into the area of LIFE exploration. Some of his opinions broke through the limitations of inherent thinking patterns and took small steps toward understanding the cognition of LIFE. For example, "The essence of LIFE lies not in specific substances, but in its form".
Then, what on earth is LIFE?
LIFE is a nonmaterial structure possessing spirituality.
Substances are not LIFE, but are carriers of it, just as a person’s watch, car, house, and clothes, are not parts of that person, but are appendages of and adornments to them. We cannot get to know people by relying on their appendages and adornments. Furthermore, we can neither know them by their age, appearance, physique, physical condition, or other physical attributes, because all of these descriptions just describe the material structures of their LIFE carriers.
It is very hard to understand nonmaterial structures since they depend mostly on our spiritual perceptions. We can only “see” them with extraordinarily sensitive spiritual perception. If one’s spiritual perception is blunt, it will be very unlikely that they would perceive nonmaterial structure in any case, but this does not mean that there is no way to know it. I will draw an analogy and hope it inspires you to draw inferences.
I recently sent a fax from Harare, Zimbabwe, to my friend in Washington, D.C., and his fax machine received it immediately. The content he received was identical to what I had sent. My handwriting, the shape of the characters, and the line spacing were all copied and were unchanged by his fax machine. However, my original document was still with me and I could toss it into wastepaper basket as rubbish. Why should I have tossed it? Simply, it had accomplished its mission and had conveyed its message (its soul) to my friend in Washington.
Let us analyze what happened. The original manuscript never went to Washington, but my friend got my fax instantly and only the paper (carrier of the information) had changed. How do you explain this? The fax machine copied the information photoelectrically and transferred it into radio signals, sent it through cables to a communications station which sent it to a launcher, and bounced it off a communications satellite. The signal was then received by a launcher on the other end which sent it to another station, and then finally through cables to my friend’s fax machine which restored the information to its original image. In this way, the “soul” of my original copy reached my friend.
Here, we focus on the radio signal. A radio signal is a kind of material rather than nonmaterial. However, that radio signal has its own characteristic structure, no matter what its wavelength or frequency is. If the structure has consciousness, it will be a nonmaterial structure.
Infinitesimal particles do not exist as particles, but are “Strings”, or even “Superstrings”. “Superstrings” are nonmaterial structures.
In this sense, the essence of LIFE lies in its nonmaterial structure, rather than in its material carrier of life.
The essence of LIFE is formless. Is there anyone who can tell the form, color, or weight of LIFE? When referring human beings, dogs, vegetables, insects, or bacteria as LIFE, we are literally talking about the expressions of Life forms, rather than the essence of LIFE.
The forms of Life are exceedingly strange and varied, but the essence of LIFE is universal.
LIFE has and cannot exist without a spiritual nature. When a person is alive, their body shows an active spiritual nature. They can talk to others, eat, drink, and blink their eyes, but when they die, their body loses its spiritual nature. Can we call a corpse without a spiritual nature, human? Absolutely not.
-
Thus, flesh (material) can be called a LIFE when it has a spiritual nature, but when it does not, it is an empty corpse.
-
Thus, a stone can be called a LIFE when it has a spiritual nature, but it is only an aggregate of material elements when it does not.
-
Thus, a tree can be called a LIFE when it has a spiritual nature, but it is a piece of wood when it loses its spiritual nature.
-
Thus, a car can be called a LIFE when it has a spiritual nature, but it is a heap of waste iron when it loses its spiritual nature.
-
Thus, a statue can be called a LIFE when it has spiritual nature, but it is just a heap of dried mud, plaster, and metal when it loses its spiritual nature
Any material thing may host a LIFE or it may only be an aggregate of material elements, depending on whether it has a spiritual nature at the temporal time and space.
